Japanese Electrician Vocabulary — Technical Terms for the Japanese Workplace

Bangladesh sends thousands of skilled workers to Japan every year, many in the construction and electrical engineering sectors. For electricians, electrical engineers, and construction workers, understanding Japanese technical vocabulary is essential — both for on-site safety and for qualifying through the Japan Technical Intern Training Program (TITP) and Specified Skilled Worker (SSW / 特定技能) visa schemes.

Why Technical Vocabulary Matters

On a Japanese construction site, instructions come in Japanese: 電源を切ってください (please cut the power), 配線を確認してください (please check the wiring), 感電に注意 (warning: electric shock hazard). Misunderstanding a safety instruction can be fatal. Even for office-based electrical engineers, reading circuit diagrams, specifications (仕様書, shiyōsho), and inspection reports requires Japanese technical literacy.

Japan's Electrician Qualification System

Japan has a national electrician certification system. The 第二種電気工事士 (Dai-ni-shu Denki Kōjishi) — Second Class Electrician — is the entry-level qualification for residential electrical work. The 第一種電気工事士 covers larger installations. Foreign workers in the Specified Skilled Worker (電気・電子情報関連産業) field must pass Japanese language and technical skills evaluations. This module is designed to help Bangladeshi electrical workers prepare for those assessments.

This module contains 599 electrical engineering vocabulary items with kanji, readings, meanings in English and Bengali, and quiz practice — covering all major categories needed for technical work and qualification exams in Japan.
